Trades Training
The Youth Train in Trades program provides high school students with a unique opportunity to gain both high school graduation credits and a head start on their apprenticeship training. This dual-credit initiative is built on partnerships between school districts, post-secondary institutions, and local employers. Classes are held either at local high schools or colleges/universities.
Students benefit by completing the first level of technical training in their Industry Training Program and gaining practical on-the-job experience. Additionally, by combining this program with the Youth Work in Trades program, students can complete significant portions of their post-secondary education before finishing high school, enhancing their job prospects and career readiness. This integrated approach ensures students are well-prepared for the workforce with practical skills and recognized qualifications.
School District 48 (SD48) offers three different Youth Train in Trades programs at Howe Sound Secondary School. In addition, there may be opportunities for students to participate in other Train in Trades programs through various post-secondary institutions if seats are available. This setup provides flexibility and allows students to explore different trades while earning high school and post-secondary credits.
