KPU - Carpentry

The Carpentry program at Howe Sound Secondary School (HSS) is delivered in partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU). The program runs from January 29th to June 26th, 2025, with classes taking place from 9:00 am to 3:15 pm, Monday to Friday, and is taught by Mr. Thomas Mortensen, a Red Seal Carpenter.

The program maintains a strict attendance policy, and students are expected to arrive on time and be prepared to work every day. Students split their time between classroom instruction and hands-on shop work, which may be conducted both indoors and outdoors. To participate, students must provide their own CSA-approved steel-toed boots and rain gear.

Application Requirements:

  1. Complete the Application Form - you must be signed into your school Google account to access the online form.
  2. Email an updated resume to the Career Program Office at HSS ([email protected]).

The Career Program Office will contact applicants for an interview. Once accepted, students are required to attend an information session on January 21st, 2025 to complete the KPU registration forms, along with paying a course materials fee of $500.

SD48 covers the tuition for the program, saving each student approximately $3,800, thanks to course funding and youth training grants from SkilledTradesBC.
