Sponsoring a WEX Student

When are the students available?

Students are typically placed for 2.5 hours per day from Sep. to Jan. or from Feb. to Jun. Students are not be required to work on statutory holidays, spring break, or any other non-instructional school days. Advance notice of these dates will be provided to employers for planning purposes. Our placements are flexible and we can customize to suit the needs of the employer and student.

What are my obligations as a sponsor?

We ask that you provide any necessary safety training/orientation as you would any of your regular employees. Placements are most successful when there is an appointed supervisor who can assign tasks and provide leadership and direction throughout the duration of the placement. The commitment period is flexible depending on the needs of your business.

Are the students paid?

Placements are unpaid and students are covered under School District 48's WorksafeBC policy. Your business must be in good standing with WorksafeBC for a placement to be considered.
