Youth Work In Trades

What is it?
 
Youth Work in Trades program, jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and Child Care and SkilledTradesBC, allows students to begin apprenticeship training as part of their secondary school education. This program combines paid work-based training and an opportunity to earn up to 16 high-school credits toward their graduation.

  • Working hours for students during regular school days and/or hours (if student schedule allows)
  • Earn tax credits of up to 20% of the apprentice's annual salary
  • Youth apprentices in the Youth Work in Trades high school program are not included in the calculations of your 2:1 supervision ratio
 
Employer Responsibilities
 
  • Have an experienced tradesperson oversee the apprenticeship
  • Maintain active WorkSafe BC coverage for employees
  • Providing meaningful paid work to/for the apprentice/employee
  • Submit work-based training hours reports to Skilled Trades BC
